The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have concluded a traffic safety campaign aimed at enhancing safety for both commercial and passenger vehicle drivers.
“Poor driving behaviours on the part of both commercial and non-commercial operators can lead to serious consequences and lengthy delays on major highways,” said Traffic Safety and Marine Manager (West Region) Mike Mc Connell.
“Operation Safe Driver” took place from July 12 to July 18. According to police, 143 charges were issued across 13 detachment areas in the OPP’s West Region.
OPP officers targeted the main causes of accidents, such as speeding, improper lane changes, and following too closely.
In Lambton County, officers observed the highest number of drivers ignoring signage, totaling seven violations, while Elgin County officers charged the most drivers for not wearing seatbelts.
Wellington County reported having the most speeders during this campaign.

“It’s every driver’s responsibility to share our roads safely,” Mc Connell said. “This is critical when large commercial vehicles are present.”
