The Province of Ontario has established a new Board of Health for the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit.
In August 2025, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health took over the board due to “serious concerns” regarding its governance.
After six months, the province ended the terms of the existing Board members and started appointing new ones.
Currently, Special Advisors to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health have appointed two provincial members out of a potential six. However, this week, it was announced that Grey and Bruce Counties have selected seven municipal members to join the Board of Health.
Grey County is appointing Shirley Keaveney, Dane Nielsen, Barbara Dobreen, and Scott Greig. Bruce County is bringing on Rod Anderson, Ken Craig, and Steve Hammell.
Both Keaveney and Craig will be joining Chad Richards as members from the previous board.
The municipal members will serve until their term ends in November. The newly formed Board of Health is expected to hold its first meeting sometime this spring.
