The Ontario government is putting $1.6 million into a Mildmay lumber business to help it grow and add jobs.

Bernie Mc Glynn Lumber Ltd. is getting this funding for its $5.3 million plan to build a new 30,000-square-foot facility and upgrade its equipment, which includes a first-in-Ontario thermal-treating kiln system and a double-bladed bandsaw.

A press release from the provincial government states that the funds will be provided through the Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program.

This investment is expected to keep 13 jobs and create five new positions at the lumber facility. The statement also mentions that this project will “help strengthen forestry supply chains across the region and is expected to increase log purchases by 50 per cent.”

“Our government is proud to support projects that help forestry businesses expand, modernize and remain competitive in changing global markets,” said Kevin Holland, Associate Minister of Forestry and Forest Products. “Through our forest sector roadmap, we will continue making strategic investments that protect forestry jobs, strengthen Ontario’s competitive advantage and maintain our position as a G7 leader in producing and selling high-quality forest products.”

“Bernie Mc Glynn Lumber has been an important employer and community partner in the Municipality of South Bruce for generations,” added Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson. “This investment will enable innovation, help create new jobs, support the local forestry sector, and strengthen the region’s economy while ensuring Ontario-made wood products continue to thrive. Congratulations to the Mc Glynn family on this exciting milestone.”
