The unemployment rate in Midwestern Ontario fell to just four per cent in August.
This information comes from the latest report by the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, which includes data for the Stratford to Bruce Peninsula Economic Region, covering Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth counties.
In August, the unemployment rate decreased by one percentage point to an even four per cent. Meanwhile, the provincial unemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 7.3 per cent, both figures unadjusted for seasonality. According to Statistics Canada’s jobs announcement on Friday, the national unemployment rate stands at 6.4 per cent.
The Stratford to Bruce Peninsula Economic Region now boasts the lowest unemployment rate in Ontario. Overall employment in this region dropped by 1,100 jobs down to 166,900, with declines seen in both full-time employment (600 jobs) and part-time employment (500 jobs). These job losses were balanced out by a reduction of 2,900 in the labor force size, contributing to the lower unemployment rate.
