It’s going to be an amazing day for car and music fans.
Rumble on the Runway takes place on Saturday, September 26 at Sarnia’s Chris Hadfield Airport.
Hadfield and his band, Bandella, will hit the stage at Hangar Two, starting at 7 p. m.
The well-known astronaut leads the group, which includes fellow retired astronauts Cady Coleman, Steve Robinson, Ken Cockrell, Dan Burbank, and Micki Pettit.
They’ll be performing family-friendly acoustic folk, bluegrass, and jazz tunes. Local country music star Emm Gryner will also join in for a few songs.
General admission tickets are $30 and VIP seats are available for $60 at www. revelreetickets. com.
Gryner mentioned her excitement about the performance.
“Chris and I are going to do a duet on a Canadian classic that we’ve never done before, I’ll leave it there for suspense,” said Gryner. “I’ve learned so much from Chris. He taught me a lot about letting go of control. You can only control what you can control. Sometimes I feel like that applies to the music industry as well.”
Huron Flight Services is assisting with organizing the event.
Event Coordinator Mike Kilbreath said it’s definitely going to be a fantastic day.
“I was talking with Chris about it and he’s thrilled to bring the astronauts down here to Sarnia to perform at his venue,” said Kilbreath. “It’s going to be just incredible and we’re looking forward to it.”
Kilbreath also shared that starting at noon, there will be a classic car and airplane show featuring over 300 hot rods.
“A big club from London is coming in for this one,” he noted. “A lot of people love those hot rods, plus we’ll have a burnout contest too.”
Kilbreath added that there will be draws and prizes available as well.
Admission is by donation at the gates for the Salvation Army Food Bank.
