Ownership Changes for Sarnia Legionnaires After Tough Season

Following a tough season with no wins, the Sarnia Legionnaires have made some changes to their ownership.

The Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) announced in a statement on Tuesday that the previous ownership group has been restored, taking back full control of operations and bringing the organization back to how it was structured during the 2024-25 season.

“Throughout this past season, the league worked in collaboration with the Sarnia organization to review operational matters involving the franchise,” read the statement. “As with any responsible governance process, these matters required time and cooperation to ensure decisions were made in the best long-term interests of the team, its players, and the community.”

The league mentioned that it has partnered with the ownership group to help guide the team through this transition aimed at creating stability and paving the way for future success.

The Sarnia Legionnaires finished up their 2025-2026 season having lost all 50 games they played.

The GOHL stated that going forward, it will collaborate with local stakeholders to rebuild the organization’s operational framework and prepare for a strong comeback next season. This rebuilding effort is designed to support the team’s long-term health and competitiveness.

“Sometimes the right decisions take time,” said Commissioner Craig Spada in the statement. “By allowing the proper process to run its course, we have now positioned the Sarnia Legionnaires for stability and a strong future in the Greater Ontario Hockey League.”

The statement also expressed gratitude towards fans, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who supported the Legionnaires during what can only be described as a challenging season.
