A tragic accident in Corunna on New Year’s Eve resulted in the death of a 20-year-old driver.

According to Lambton County OPP, emergency services were alerted at 10:45 p. m. on December 31 to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Bentinck Street.

The vehicle hit a tree, and the driver from Corunna was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bentinck Street was closed for several hours between Cameron Street and Moore Street while authorities investigated, but it has since reopened.

Members of the St. Clair Township Fire Department and Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also responded to the scene.

Lambton OPP are continuing their investigation with help from the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) Team.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the accident or has any dash cam or surveillance footage to get in touch with Lambton County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
