The Corunna Legion’s Catch the Ace is happening tonight, and tickets sold out in just two hours.
Because of its municipal licence, the main prize for the Corunna Legion’s Catch the Ace must be claimed during the event on July 8, ensuring that someone will walk away with nearly $30,000.
“Tonight’s Catch the Ace is week six, and we have already reached our maximum payout for our current licence, so the ace has to be drawn tonight. The prize is estimated at $28,000, and it’s going to be an exciting night,” said Vanessa Barnes, secretary and public relations officer for the Corunna Legion. “Tickets are $5 each, with a limit of eight tickets per person.”
Since it’s a must-go event, names will keep being drawn until there’s a winner.
To make things fairer, there’s a limit on ticket purchases. Each person can buy up to eight tickets from a total of 4,820 available tickets. All were sold within those first two hours. The first ticket drawn wins 20 percent of that evening’s ticket sales.
“We accept cash as well as debit/credit cards for ticket sales. There are six sellers in the hall; after you purchase your ticket you can head over to the club side to drop your ballot in hopes of getting your name called tonight,” said Barnes. “Last week saw over 700 attendees which has been fantastic! In our first week we had 420 people attend so it’s no surprise that our pot has grown so quickly over these last six weeks. I’m expecting at least 700 people again tonight.”
Tickets cost $5 and went on sale at noon but were completely sold out by 2 p. m. The draw is scheduled for 8 p. m.
“There’ll be karaoke from 7 p. m. to 9 p. m., and both bars at the Legion will be open along with food options available for purchase. We also have great games outside on our patio where everyone can enjoy themselves while lots of volunteers will be around to answer any questions,” Barnes added. “It should really be a wonderful evening.”
You don’t need to be present to win; the lucky winner will be announced live on Corunna Legion’s Facebook page.
