This incident occurred on September 10, 2025, and tragically led to the death of 18-month-old Liam Riazati along with injuries to 24 other children and three staff members. The crash happened around 3 p. m. as Gupta was trying to pick up his grandchildren but mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, driving his Hyundai Ioniq 9 through the daycare’s walls.
The SUV crashed through three rooms, resulting in serious injuries including one boy aged three-and-a-half who suffered life-changing injuries and a girl aged 22 months who had broken bones. Gupta admitted guilt to charges of dangerous driving that caused death and bodily harm during a Zoom court appearance in Newmarket.
