York police have taken into custody four men and one youth following a home invasion that took place in Richmond Hill last month.

The event occurred around 3 a. m. on March 18 at a home located near Arnold Avenue and Charles Street, according to a news release from the police on Monday.

Three masked men forced their way into the house, demanding the key to an SUV parked in the garage. The victim gave in to their demands, and one of the intruders went to the garage, backing out through a closed garage door and driving away through a gate at the end of the driveway, police reported.

At the time of the break-in, three adults were present in the house, but fortunately, no one sustained any injuries. The stolen vehicle was later discovered abandoned not far from the residence.

Authorities stated that four men along with a 17-year-old boy were apprehended near Matheson Boulevard East and Creekbank Road in Mississauga on Saturday.

A loaded firearm was also recovered during these arrests, according to police officials.

The five suspects now face several charges including disguise with intent, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Police mentioned that at least some of those arrested were already out on separate release orders or probation for other unrelated offenses. Additionally, three of them were wanted by different law enforcement agencies.

Anyone who has information regarding this incident is encouraged to reach out to York police or provide an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.
