Second Victim of Richmond Hill Fire Passes Away

Authorities report that a second individual has died following an arson incident in Richmond Hill, Ontario, which had already resulted in the tragic death of an 11-year-old girl.

At about 3:15 a. m. on September 1, emergency responders were called to a house fire on Skywood Drive, located south of Bathurst Street and King Road.

According to police, five people were taken to the hospital; three of them were initially deemed to have life-threatening injuries, but later all were categorized as being in critical condition.

Initially reported by police was the death of an 11-year-old girl among the victims.

In an update from authorities, it was revealed that 24-year-old Helya Bahari-Kashani also lost her life. Her passing is now under investigation as a homicide.

“York Regional Police are investigating the incident, and at this time based on evidence collected during the course of the investigation, the fire is believed to be an arson,” the force said in a statement.

“The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to check their security cameras or dashcam footage.”

The other three victims remain hospitalized in critical condition.
