The Renfrew County and District Health Unit reports that over 94 percent of local students meet the provincial immunization requirements after its school-based catch-up initiative for the 2025-26 academic year.
According to the health unit, the area maintains one of the highest vaccination compliance rates in Ontario as outlined by the Immunization of School Pupils Act. Measles vaccination coverage among students is around 95 percent, which aligns with the recommended level for community safety.
Dr. Jason Morgenstern, Medical Officer of Health, stated that these results show a strong dedication from families and community partners in keeping students safe from vaccine-preventable diseases.
“High immunization coverage helps prevent the spread of serious diseases and keeps schools safe,” Morgenstern said in a statement.
The health unit praised local doctors, family health teams, and school communities for their role in achieving these impressive vaccination rates.
Under Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act, it is up to parents and guardians to ensure their children’s immunization records are current with public health authorities.
The health unit encourages families to report any new or missing vaccination records through its online reporting system, via email, fax, or phone.
Residents who don’t have a primary care provider can use routine immunization clinics provided by the health unit across the county. An online booking system will be available for appointments starting July 1, 2026.
For those needing appointments before July 1 or assistance with booking, they are advised to reach out to the health unit’s Immunization Information Line.
