According to the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, over 94 percent of local students have met the provincial immunization requirements after their school-based catch-up campaign for the 2025-26 school year.

The health unit reports that this region continues to have one of the highest compliance rates in Ontario under the Immunization of School Pupils Act. Approximately 95 percent of students are vaccinated against measles, which is in line with the community protection threshold.

Dr. Jason Morgenstern, Medical Officer of Health, mentioned that these results show a strong dedication from families and community partners to ensure students are protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.

“High immunization coverage helps prevent the spread of serious diseases and keeps schools safe,” Morgenstern said in a statement.

The health unit praised local doctors, family health teams, and school communities for their role in reaching these high vaccination numbers.

Parents and guardians must keep their children’s immunization records up to date with public health authorities as required by Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act.

The health unit encourages families to report any new or missing vaccination records through its online reporting system, email, fax, or phone.

Residents who do not have a primary care provider can access routine immunization clinics provided by the health unit across the county. An online booking system will be available for appointments starting July 1, 2026.

For those needing appointments before July 1 or assistance with booking, they should reach out to the health unit’s Immunization Information Line.
