RENFREW – Ontario Provincial Police conducted a significant search in Renfrew late Thursday night, Aug. 28 after a woman reported that she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel in the area.
The woman went to the hospital on Aug. 28 and informed staff that she had been attacked at a motel located on Stewart Street. She also mentioned that the man, who is someone she knows, was carrying a handgun.
By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left the motel but was later seen walking nearby. When police tried to arrest him, he ran onto the Algonquin Trail, which led to an extensive search operation.
This operation involved members of the Renfrew OPP, Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and Tactics and Rescue Unit. Out of caution, a shelter-in-place advisory was issued for the area just after 9 p. m. Although police did not think there was an immediate danger to the public, this advisory remained active until shortly before 1 a. m., when they called off the search.
Authorities have identified the suspect and are working on obtaining an arrest warrant for him. He is described as a Black male between 5’9″ to 6′ (175-183 cm) tall, with hair on top and shaved sides, a goatee, and notable tattoos – one being a five-star design above his left eyebrow and another under his left eye. He was last seen wearing a purple plaid jacket along with what might be black shorts and a blue shirt.
Residents are advised not to approach this individual if spotted but instead to call 9-1-1 right away.
