Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke’s boundaries are unchanged from previous federal elections, a rarity for the region in 2025. (Elections Canada)

This riding, one of only two in the area that has maintained its borders through a redistribution, was previously known as Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke but has been renamed.

The regular independent boundary review after the 2021 census determined that it was more appropriate to honor the Algonquin Anishinābe heritage in the region rather than acknowledging the small section of Nipissing District included.

The riding primarily consists of Renfrew County and includes Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn.

Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke leaned Liberal until Cheryl Gallant changed things up for the Canadian Alliance in 2000. She has held her seat since then. (Gallant shares the record with Lanark-Frontenac’s Scott Reid for being the longest-serving local MP.)

In 2021, Gallant received just under 50 percent of the vote, leading over the second-place NDP candidate by more than 16,000 votes.

Polls will be open from 9:30 a. m. to 9:30 p. m. on election day set for Monday, April 28. You can find more details about voting options at Elections Canada.

Here are the candidates. The People’s Party had Patrick Dale listed as a candidate here, but he won’t appear on the final ballot.

Randy Briand, United Party of Canada

Briand is a veteran and an organic farmer who’s stepped back from his education career.

Cheryl Gallant, Conservative

This eight-time election winner once helped run a small family business and worked in economic development in Pembroke.

Eileen Jones-Whyte, NDP

Jones-Whyte brings over 30 years of teaching experience and co-founded the Upper Valley Basketball Association. She resides in Eganville.

Stefan Klietsch, Independent

Elections Canada hasn’t provided a website for this candidate yet. Someone with this name has previously run federally here.

Seth Malina, Independent

No website information is available from Elections Canada for this candidate either.

Cyndi Mills, Liberal

Mills serves as president of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce and also owns and publishes a magazine tailored for military families.

Danilo Velasquez, Green

Velasquez started an English and Spanish news service and works in customer service after moving to Canada from Nicaragua in 1988.
