This riding is one of only two that have maintained its borders through a redistribution, although it does have a new name from what was once Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.

The regular independent boundary review after the 2021 census determined it was more fitting to acknowledge the Algonquin Anishinābe history in this area rather than the small segment of Nipissing District included.

The riding consists mainly of Renfrew County and includes Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn.

Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke voted Liberal until Cheryl Gallant turned it into a win for the Canadian Alliance in 2000. She has been the MP since then. (Gallant shares the title of longest-serving local MP with Scott Reid from Lanark-Frontenac.)

In the last election held in 2021, Gallant received nearly 50 percent of the vote, leading over her nearest rival from the NDP by more than 16,000 votes.

Polls will be open from 9:30 a. m. to 9:30 p. m. on election day, which falls on Monday, April 28. For details about voting options, check out Elections Canada.

Here are the candidates. The People’s Party had listed Patrick Dale as a candidate here, but he won’t appear on the final ballot.

Randy Briand, United Party of Canada

Briand is an organic farmer and veteran who has retired after working in education.

Cheryl Gallant, Conservative

The eight-time winner previously managed a small family business and worked on economic development initiatives in Pembroke.

Eileen Jones-Whyte, NDP

Jones-Whyte brings over 30 years of teaching experience and co-founded the Upper Valley Basketball Association. She resides in Eganville.

Stefan Klietsch, Independent

Elections Canada hasn’t provided a website for this candidate yet. Someone with his name has run federally before.

Seth Malina, Independent

Elections Canada also hasn’t posted any website information for this candidate.

Cyndi Mills, Liberal

Mills serves as president of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce and publishes a magazine aimed at military families.

Danilo Velasquez, Green

Velasquez started an English and Spanish news service and currently works in customer service. He immigrated to Canada from Nicaragua back in 1988.
