UPDATE | Police have identified the two victims as 41-year-old Lisa Marie Hartwick and 44-year-old Gregory James Bennett.

Two individuals lost their lives in a suspicious house fire in Renfrew, Ont., according to police.

Authorities and local firefighters responded to the residence on Fortington Street around 1 p. m. Monday, Ontario Provincial Police announced in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

After extinguishing the fire, police discovered two bodies inside.

The investigation has classified the fire as suspicious, prompting the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office to arrive at the location for further inquiry.

The identities of the deceased had not been disclosed at that time. Autopsies are set to be conducted Wednesday at The Ottawa Hospital’s General campus, OPP reported.

As of 4 p. m. Tuesday, law enforcement remained on site, with a section of Fortington Street still blocked off.

Renfrew is located about 100 kilometers west of downtown Ottawa.
