A tragic accident on Tuesday afternoon in Renfrew, Ont., resulted in the deaths of two women when their car collided with a pickup truck, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Officers arrived at the scene on Highway 17 around 12:45 p. m., as mentioned in a news release issued Wednesday morning. The OPP temporarily closed the highway in both directions between Chenaux Road and Bruce Street.

The deceased victims, aged 54 and 78 from Val-des-Monts, Que., were identified as the driver and passenger of the vehicle involved in the crash. They were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured, according to police reports.

Authorities stated that their investigation is ongoing and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage to reach out at 1-888-310-1122.
