This weekend’s event is essentially a sequel. Homan’s team from Ottawa will face Jacobs’ squad from Calgary starting Friday through Sunday at The Plex in Port Elgin. The format changes daily to keep things fresh for these star athletes … Friday evening kicks off with doubles curling; Saturday night features a skins game; then Sunday afternoon wraps up with a standard team game-with some unexpected twists thrown in by organizers. “Each game is going to be special,” Gallant noted. “And we rarely get to compete against women’s teams like this-we’ve never played against Rachel before as this group-so it’ll definitely be unique.” It’ll also be enjoyable for fans as well! The Canadian Paralympic gold-medal wheelchair team is also set to make an appearance Friday during the doubles event before engaging with fans throughout the weekend. In addition to this competition aspect is a sold-out curling camp featuring 80 participants who will learn from members of both teams along with notable figures such as Glenn Howard, Sherry Middaugh and national Paralympic coach Mick Lizmore. Organizers say funds raised will benefit curling clubs throughout Grey-Bruce region. Team Jacobs won’t feature its usual lineup for The Battle. Vice-skip Marc Kennedy cannot make it due t o schedule conflicts , so coach Paul Webster steps into play. He’ll throw lead stones which allows Hebert and Gallant t o shift positions. Gallant also plans t o hold broom for skip Jacobs. “I’m looking forward t o throwing some lead rocks , holding broom f or Brad , and playing doubles with Brett ,” Webster stated. “I’ll admit there’s mixed nerves here too ; ‘nervouscited’ could sum it up best! “It has been six or seven years since my last competitive match!”

Webster knows his way around major curling events. Having coached since he was young , spent seventeen years working as Curling Canada’s national development coach , plus serving as team leader for Canada’s Olympic squad – he has made quite an impact across Canada through his work alongside Jacob s , Kennedy , Gallant & Hebert capturing gold last winter over Italy !
Now he’s ready jump back into competitive action w ith them.
“We’re going miss Marc,” G allant commented. “But having Webby there should still bring lots of fun!
“Paul kind of jumped onboard,” laughed G allant regarding joining Webster during doubles play. “We’ve already been practicing this week so we’re ready.”
Good enough challenge H oman though? That’s still open question considering Kennedy’s absence means one less top-tier player available putting pressure all rotations ahead o f Jacob s whose own practice ha ve been limited while away fro m h ome not having proper ice time lately!“Marc isn’t even playing right?” remarked Herbert adding competition won’t lessen simply due circumstances surrounding plays & time leading into match point s either.
