Southern Ontario is bracing for a hefty snowfall in the next few days.
While northern regions of Ontario are preparing for a serious winter storm on Wednesday, Environment Canada has also put out snow squall warnings for areas east of Lake Huron.
Two separate warnings have been issued, indicating that southern areas are likely to receive more snow than those up north, although both alerts anticipate substantial amounts.
UPDATE: 60 cm of snow and strong winds expected this week in parts of Ontario
Huron County, Port Elgin, and Mount Forest are among the locations where Environment Canada predicts 30 to 50 cm of snow, with even larger totals possible locally.
The snowfall is expected to start Thursday morning and may last into Saturday, with “near zero visibility at times.”

“Strong winds are also expected and a special weather statement is in effect. These strong winds will further reduce visibility in blowing snow,” the weather agency said.
“Travel may be hazardous and some routes may be impassable. Road closures are possible.”
Further north, including places like Owen Sound, Barrie, Orillia, and Northern York Region, there could be 15 to 30 cm of snow with potentially higher amounts.
“Snow squalls will shift throughout the day on Thursday before locking in place Thursday night,” Environment Canada said.
There as well, strong winds will reduce visibility due to blowing snow.
