Kevin Ashe secured his second consecutive term in the Pickering mayoral race on Monday night.
Ashe garnered 36.9% of the popular vote with a total of 11,254 votes counted. He was first elected in 2022 when he received 7,867 votes.
Lisa Robinson came in second with 7,109 votes while Janice Frampton followed in third place with 4,280 votes.>
Robinson stirred controversy during her time at city council. She faced nine investigations by the city’s integrity commissioner since 2023 and had her salary suspended multiple times. Ultimately, she took legal action against the city to reclaim her lost wages. An Ontario court upheld both the integrity commissioner’s findings and the city’s choices regarding her pay suspension.>
Throughout his campaign for mayor, Ashe promoted a comprehensive platform aimed at lowering taxes, addressing affordability issues, supporting seniors, and generating local employment opportunities.>
A point of interest is that Ashe’s father, George, served as Pickering’s first mayor starting in 1973 until he stepped down in 1977.>
Whitby
With all polls reporting their results, Elizabeth Roy has been re-elected for another term as mayor in Whitby.>
