The provincial government is allocating more money for hospitals in Campbellford and Cobourg as part of an increase in regional funding.
On Wednesday, David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, revealed that the Ontario government is investing over $6.1 million to enhance healthcare services and infrastructure in his area.
This funding will benefit Northumberland Hills Hospital, Campbellford Memorial Hospital, and the Community Health Centres of Northumberland.
“Strong local health care starts with making sure our hospitals and healthcare facilities have the resources they need to provide high-quality care, closer to home,” said David Piccini, MPP, Northumberland-Peterborough South. “These investments will support important infrastructure improvements; increase access to diagnostic imaging and surgical care; and provide our local hospitals with additional resources to meet the needs of patients across Northumberland.”
The announcement today includes:
Northumberland Hills Hospital
· $2,909,700 in extra base funding for 2026-27, a 3.1 percent rise from 2025-26 to assist hospital operations and the delivery of essential health-care services.
· $1,284,713 through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund to aid critical infrastructure renewal and upgrades at the hospital, including replacing its cooling tower.
· $389,200 in Incremental Surgical Recovery Funding (2025-26) to support more surgical activity and help address demand and wait times for surgeries.
Campbellford Memorial Hospital
· $1,116,700 in additional base funding for 2026-27, a 4.0 percent increase from 2025-26 aimed at supporting hospital operations and essential health-care service delivery.
· $175,576 through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund to facilitate vital infrastructure renewal and improvements at the hospital.
· $118,500 for increased CT hours (2025-26) to expand diagnostic imaging capacity and ensure patients can access timely diagnostic services close by.
Community Health Centres of Northumberland
· $189,070 via the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund for HVAC upgrades at Community Health Centres of Northumberland.
Totaling these investments results in a $6,183,459 boost for health-care services and infrastructure within Northumberland-Peterborough South.
This funding will support hospital operations as well as enhancements in infrastructure alongside increased CT capacity and surgical recovery efforts-ensuring healthcare providers can keep delivering care locally.
