The Art Gallery of Peterborough is set to receive more funding from the province starting next year.
According to the gallery, its Ontario Arts Council multi-year operating grant will go up by 7.1 percent for three years starting in 2027.
This financial support comes through the Ontario Arts Operating Fund, which helps arts groups throughout the province.
Additionally, the AGP earned a B+ rating from the Ontario Arts Council as part of their funding evaluation.
Gallery officials mention that this ongoing support will enhance exhibitions, care for the AGP’s collection, and provide accessible art programs for the community in Peterborough.
“We appreciate the additional funds and the recognition of the work we do here at the AGP,” said gallery director Celeste Scopelites.
She also acknowledged contributions from the City of Peterborough, gallery staff, volunteers, board members, educators, sponsors and members towards their success as an organization.
The Ontario Arts Council indicates that funding levels are shifting for about half of returning organizations seeking operating support this year based on criteria like program goals and assessment results.
As reported by OAC, 27 percent of returning applicants got an increase while 45 percent will maintain their current funding level from 2025-26.
An additional 11 percent saw their funding decrease and 12 percent will be leaving the operating funding program altogether.
Out of 26 new organizations applying for operational support during spring application deadlines, 38 percent were accepted into this funding program.
The Art Gallery of Peterborough did not disclose how much its new three-year grant will be worth in this announcement.
