A suspect has been taken into custody and is facing several charges after officers from the OPP Peterborough/Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) carried out a warrant at a site in Trent Lakes where they discovered multiple firearms and suspected cocaine.

In April 2026, an investigation began regarding a person believed to be in illegal possession of firearms, despite being prohibited from having any. On April 8, 2026, members of the OPP Peterborough/Northumberland CSCU visited an address on Bessie Avenue in the Municipality of Trent Lakes and came into contact with the suspect who was promptly arrested. During the arrest, cocaine was found on the individual.

Officers proceeded into the premises to execute the warrant and found one firearm that was stored unsafely. Their search continued, leading them to uncover 52 additional long rifles along with various types of ammunition and more cocaine.

After completing their search, officers collected and seized:

• 53 long rifles

• Various ammunition

• Ammunition reloader devices

• 278 grams of cocaine

• Digital scales

• Cell phones

• Over $5,000 in Canadian currency

Joshua Fawcett, aged 39 from Trent Lakes, ON., was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order – three counts

• Careless storage of firearms, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

• Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

• Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000

The accused is being held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.

If anyone has information about criminal activity, they should reach out to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit ontariocrimestoppers. ca.
