Last month, seven swimmers from the Perth Stingrays took on some of the best in the province at the Ontario Swimming Championships.
To qualify for this event, swimmers need to meet two specific Ontario Championship Standards.
The team from Perth included Allie Licari, Ben Tanner, Gavin Peden, Jayden Peden, Nathan Mac Phee, Mykal Gaudaur Webb, and Olivia Gillieson.
Mac Phee snagged a silver medal in the boys’ 13-to-14 50-metre freestyle. Meanwhile, Licari achieved five top-10 finishes in the girls’ 11-and-under category. Gaudaur Webb finished fifth in the boys’ 15-to-16 50-metre freestyle.
Mac Phee along with Gavin Peden, Jayden Peden, and Gaudaur Webb participated in four relay events for ages 15 and over and set new club records for each one.
This impressive performance wrapped up a groundbreaking season for the club.
The Stingrays broke a total of 33 individual records and 17 relay records while an unprecedented number qualified for Eastern Regionals.
The club was also honored with the Eastern Ontario Small Team Award at both short-course and long-course championships.
