Two residents from the capital city lost their lives, and four others were hurt, in a serious multi-vehicle accident early Friday morning just west of Perth, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that shortly after 3:00 a. m. on Aug. 22, two transport trucks and an SUV were heading east toward Ottawa on Highway 7. At the same time, a pick-up truck was going in the opposite direction when all four vehicles collided.

In the tragic aftermath of the crash, a 59-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, both from Ottawa and traveling in the SUV, were pronounced dead.

Two additional adults were airlifted to a regional trauma center in critical condition. Another individual was taken to a hospital in Ottawa, while the last person went to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency services including Lanark County OPP, Lanark County Paramedic Services, and Drummond-North Elmsley-Tay Valley Fire Rescue responded promptly.

The OPP closed Highway 7 for nearly 12 hours from County Road 36 to Highway 511 near Perth.

If anyone witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage, they are urged to contact investigators at the Lanark County Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

This marks the second severe vehicle incident on Highway 7 within just a few days.

On Aug. 20, police attended another collision in Perth at Drummond Street West and Highway where they found an off-duty paramedic along with bystanders assisting a motorcyclist.

The responding paramedics transported the 53-year-old man from Beckwith to a local hospital before he was transferred to a trauma center.
