Emergency responders, including officers from the Perth County OPP, arrived at a structure fire early Saturday morning in Perth East, where it’s reported that 140 animals lost their lives.
On March 7, just before 5 a. m., members of the Perth County OPP, along with paramedics from Perth County Emergency Medical Services and firefighters from Perth East, responded to a fire report on Wilmot Easthope Road near Gads Hill.
No injuries were reported due to the incident, according to police.
Fire crews managed to contain and put out the fire, aided by an “eager” member of the Perth County OPP.
The Office of the Fire Marshall determined that the fire was not suspicious.
Wilmot Easthope Road between Perth Line 45 and Perth Line 43 was briefly closed while emergency services were on scene but has since reopened.
Speeding Enforcement Leads to Eight Citations
After receiving multiple complaints about speeding issues along St. Vincent Street South, Stratford police opted for targeted enforcement in that area.
Between March 5 and March 8, Stratford officers carried out “several projects” focused on speed enforcement resulting in eight tickets being issued to drivers.
“The Stratford Police Service would like to thank those who expressed their concerns regarding speeding in this area,” police officials said in a release.
“Speeding remains the leading cause of collisions on our roads, and it is well known that the higher the speed of the vehicles involved in a crash, the higher the likelihood of injuries are to the occupants of those vehicles.”
In their statement, police officials urged community members to continue sharing such concerns as it assists the department in making enforcement decisions aimed at “creating safer roads and a safer community overall.”
