Monday, Oct. 12 is Thanksgiving, a time to gather with family and friends over a delicious roast turkey.

Thanksgiving is recognized as a statutory public holiday in Ontario. Here’s what you can expect to be open and closed this holiday Monday:

OC Transpo and Para Transpo

OC Transpo bus and O-Train services will follow a Sunday schedule. This means that O-Train Line 1 will operate from 8 a. m. to 11 p. m., while O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will run from 7:30 a. m. to 11:30 p. m.

The city advises commuters to plan their trips ahead of time using the Travel Planner or Transit app specifically designed for OC Transpo users. On Thanksgiving weekend, OC Transpo is offering a “2-for-1 Day Pass,” allowing two riders unlimited travel all day for $12.25.

Regular bookings or recurring trips for Para Transpo on Monday will be automatically canceled. Customers can book trips for Thanksgiving by calling 613-560-5000 or using My Para Transpo. The reservation phone line will be available from 7 a. m. to 5 p. m.

Grocery and Retail

Many grocery stores across Ottawa will close on Thanksgiving, but some locations will stay open:

Farm Boy Metcalfe will be open from 9 a. m. to 6 p. m. Farm Boy Rideau will be open from 10 a. m. to 7 p. m. Whole Foods at Lansdowne will be open from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m. Loblaws on Isabella Street will be open from 7 a. m. to 6 p. m. Loblaws on Rideau Street will be open from 7 a. m. to 6 p. m. Metro Glebe on Bank Street will be open from 9 a. m. to 6 p. m. Metro on Rideau Street will be open from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m.

The LCBO and Beer Stores will remain closed all day on Monday. The Rideau Centre will operate from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m., while Tanger Outlets will also welcome shoppers; however, other malls are expected to close.

Waste collection

No curbside green bin, garbage, or recycling pickup is scheduled for Thanksgiving Monday, Oct.12. Pickup services are set for Tuesday, Oct.13, which may delay regular collections by one day throughout the week.

City-run services

Some pools, arenas, and fitness complexes may operate under modified schedules; check facility pages for specific hours or adjustments in scheduling details. Most other recreation and community centers are likely closed.

Cultural sites like city-operated museums, galleries, Ben Franklin Place, Shenkman Arts Centre, along with Nepean Creative and Visual Arts Centres won’t be accessible.

All four Employment and Social Services offices are closed on Monday as well as all municipal childcare centers.

The Ottawa 3-1-1 Contact Centre will handle urgent matters only; residents can submit requests online at ottawa. ca/311. However, Service Ottawa’s Client Services counters and phone lines won’t be available.

The Site mobile van will operate between 5 p. m. and 11:30 p. m., but clinics like the Sexual Health Clinic , Dental clinics , Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins , and satellite clinics won’t function.

Lastly, every branch of the Ottawa Public Library is closed on Monday, Oct.12 but they’ll reopen with regular hours starting Tuesday , Oct.13.
