Three vehicles left behind in west Ottawa have led Ontario Provincial Police to connect the case with thefts that occurred in Toronto.
Police stated that they began their investigation early Monday after receiving reports of three stolen vehicles in Toronto. Officers made a connection between these incidents and the abandoned vehicles discovered in Ashton.
In an email, law enforcement confirmed that one of the SUVs was initially spotted using an automated licence‑plate recognition (ALPR) system. While attempting to stop this vehicle, officers found the other SUVs abandoned nearby.
Ottawa police provided assistance to OPP in locating the drivers.
The authorities mentioned that the drivers fled the scene before anyone could arrive, but they have arrested one individual related to the case.
Teams from K9 division, aviation unit, and emergency response team searched the area where the vehicles were located but did not find any suspects.
There are still two more suspects at large, and officials are asking for help from the public to keep watch.
