Environment Canada has issued a yellow watch for thunderstorms in Ottawa, effective at 12:37 p. m. on Saturday, July 18, alongside a yellow warning regarding air quality because of wildfires in northern Ontario.
The alert indicates that conditions are “favourable” for thunderstorms, which might bring strong wind gusts reaching up to 110 km/h, hail the size of quarters, and heavy rainfall between 30 to 50 mm. There’s also a chance of a tornado occurring.
Thunderstorms are anticipated to develop and move through the area this afternoon into the early evening. This could lead to worsening driving conditions and potential power outages.
