The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 51-year-old man from Quebec with first-degree murder along with other offenses related to the disappearance and death of Robert Prevost, who lived east of Ottawa last year.

Prevost, a 63-year-old resident of Clarence-Rockland, was last seen in February 2025 and was reported missing the following month. His body was recovered from the Ottawa River that May, leading to a homicide investigation.

On Friday, OPP announced that they had arrested Luc Decarie, also 51 years old, from St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, Quebec, just one day prior.

Decarie faces charges including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and indignity to a body.

According to OPP, multiple units were involved in the investigation including canine teams, aviation support, underwater teams, and SAVE (Snowmobile, ATV, Vessel Enforcement) teams. The investigation continues.
