The Ontario government has announced a financial support program for some residents of Ottawa whose homes were damaged by flooding during the severe storm on Canada Day.
This announcement was made by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing early Friday afternoon.
The Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program offers reimbursements for cleanup efforts, repairs or replacement of essential property, as well as basic emergency expenses like travel. This aid had previously been activated due to local flooding from the Ottawa River.
A map released alongside Friday’s announcement indicates that assistance will be available in areas near Graham Creek and Stillwater Creek. These waterways “overflowed their banks, leading to overland flooding that caused damage to homes in the area,” according to the province.

The Kanata North, Bay, College and Knoxdale-Merivale wards saw the highest number of service requests after the storm, which “indicating [those] residents experienced significant flooding-related impacts.”
However, Kanata North is not included in the aid announced on Friday by Ontario.

Months to apply
Homeowners who submit applications can receive up to $250,000; small businesses, farms and non-profits are also eligible according to provincial guidelines. The deadline for applications is set for Nov. 16, 2026, as noted on the program page. It’s important to note that DRAO has specific rules aimed at providing financial help for flood damage that insurance does not cover. Communities such as Armour, Burk’s Falls, French River, Sudbury, Orillia, Ramara and Kawartha Lakes will also receive support under this round of DRAO after facing flooding back in April according to Friday’s release from the ministry.Source link
