One person has died and a child is critically injured after a three-vehicle crash near Smiths Falls that also hurt three others on Friday afternoon, according to emergency services.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrived at the scene of the accident along Highway 15 in Lombardy, a town southwest of Ottawa, just before 4:30 p. m., police shared on social media.

Paramedics reported that a child was airlifted to CHEO’s pediatric trauma center, while two others were taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

Sadly, one individual was pronounced dead at the scene, and paramedics noted that another person suffered minor injuries.

As a result of the accident, Highway 15 is closed between County Road 1 and County Road 5.

“Motorists should expect a lengthy road closure as the investigation at scene continues,” OPP wrote in a statement.
