DON’T MISS: Ontario’s late weekend snowstorm threatens 25-50 cm of snow; road closure likely

By Friday night, the heavier snow will move eastward towards Oshawa, Peterborough, and Kingston, while light rain might mix in along the lakeshore from Toronto to Hamilton, which could lower totals in those areas.

The snowfall will reach Ottawa late Friday evening and continue into Saturday morning, with light lake-effect snow hanging around Lake Huron and Georgian Bay until the early hours.

The majority of the GTA is forecasted to receive 5-10 cm of snow, with areas closer to Lake Ontario experiencing lower amounts. Snow accumulations of 10-15+ cm are expected north of Highways 401 and 407. The Niagara region will see about 3-7 cm of snow.

SEE ALSO: A potentially strong El Niño will develop by this summer

Wind gusts over 90 km/h are predicted for areas such as Windsor, the Lake Erie shoreline, and throughout the Niagara Peninsula, bringing blowing snow and bursts of heavier snowfall in the GTA and beyond through Saturday morning.

People traveling in the GTA, Ottawa, and eastern Ontario should be ready for delays and reduced visibility from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Strong winds might cause power outages in regions with above-ground lines.

Even though some melting is expected, a drop to below-freezing temperatures overnight Friday will lead any leftover slush to freeze up again, possibly causing icy conditions.
