Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into the events surrounding a woman’s death after Durham officers transported her to a hospital in Oshawa.
The Special Investigations Unit reports that the situation began with a call regarding a 23-year-old woman experiencing a crisis around 9:30 p. m. on Thursday near Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East.
According to investigators, officers took the woman into custody and brought her to Lakeridge Health Oshawa, where she was discharged shortly after.
However, security personnel later spotted the woman in the hospital parking garage and notified police, leading to her being found on the ground below, as stated by the SIU.
The woman was then taken back to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The SIU is now investigating how this tragic event unfolded.
