A man from Toronto is facing multiple charges after a reported incident of reckless driving in Oshawa.

Durham police stated that at about 8 a. m. on July 16, officers tried to pull over a vehicle in the area of Coldstream Drive and Ritson Road after allegedly witnessing an Acura sedan being driven “in an unsafe manner.”

The authorities claim that the driver did not stop and instead sped away from them.

While attempting to escape, the driver reportedly lost control and collided with two parked cars that were empty at the time.

Police also allege that he then tried to flee the scene on foot.

He was ultimately apprehended by officers.

The suspect, 21-year-old Israel Barnes from Toronto, faces several charges including dangerous driving, stunt driving, fleeing from an officer, ignoring a stop sign, and operating a vehicle without proper licensing.

He has been released under certain conditions.

The allegations are yet to be proven in court.

In Ontario, drivers can be charged with stunt driving if they are believed to have exceeded the speed limit by 50 km/h or more, driven in ways that block other vehicles from passing, intentionally cut off other drivers or drove too closely to others, pedestrians or stationary objects.

Charges related to stunt driving can result in an immediate suspension of the driver’s license for 30 days as well as a 14-day impoundment of the involved vehicle. Fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 may also apply.

If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are encouraged to reach out to Cst. Walker of the Community Resource Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1608.

Anonymously provided information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through their website at www. durhamregionalcrimestoppers. ca; tipsters could qualify for a cash reward.
