The remains of an Ontario police officer who tragically lost his life in a highway accident east of Toronto were brought to Oshawa on Thursday ahead of his upcoming funeral.
Sgt. Brandon Malcolm passed away while on duty on Monday following a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Highway 401 in Cobourg.
The procession left the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto on Thursday afternoon, making its way east along Highway 401 to Oshawa.
Throughout the journey, police officers, first responders, and members of the community gathered at various overpasses along the highway.
Authorities state that funeral preparations for the 33-year-old Malcolm are still being organized.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique mentioned Monday evening that Malcolm joined the OPP in 2020 and was also part of the precision motorcycle team known as the Golden Helmets.
