A 23-year-old man was killed in Oshawa on Saturday night, marking Durham Region’s third homicide of the year, according to police.

Officers arrived after receiving calls about an armed person near Simcoe Street N. and Winchester Road E. around 8:10 p. m., as reported by Durham Regional Police on social media.

They found a man “suffering from traumatic injuries,” who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stated that two groups of men got into a physical fight outside a Tim Hortons in the area. The victim sustained fatal injuries during this altercation, while the suspect and several other men ran away on foot.

Air and K9 units joined in searching for the suspects, but none were found, police said.

A noticeable police presence will remain in the area as the homicide unit continues its investigation.

The incident is believed to be isolated with no ongoing threat to public safety, they mentioned.

Investigators are asking anyone who was nearby between 7:30 p. m. and 9 p. m. with information or video to reach out to police or Crime Stoppers.
