Helen M. Trombly (née Sproule) passed away peacefully at Leacock Care Centre in Orillia, Ontario, on June 16, 2026, at the age of 94.
She was the beloved wife of the late Bert Trombly (2014) and is survived by her children, Melinda (Bill) Williams, Joe (Betty) Trombly, Debbie (Terry) Knox, and Remi Trombly. She adored her ten grandchildren and took pride in being a great-grandmother to many.
Helen was a dear sister to Joan (the late John) Jackson, Carol (the late Jack) Watt, Coral (Leonard) Somerville, Marion Kowal, Marg (Jack) Inwood, and Jean (the late Ben) Barbary. She was predeceased by her brothers Merlin, Harold, Wilmer, Arnold, Elwood, and Floyd as well as her sisters Irene Rhodes and Phyllis Deane. Many nieces and nephews will also remember her fondly.
Born on July 5, 1932, in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Maxine (Mc Dougall) Sproule. As the middle child in a family of fifteen kids, there was always someone to play with or look after.
Helen became known in the community for starting Trombly’s Supertest in Uptergrove with her husband Bert. Among all her jobs throughout life, raising four children was what she valued most-especially two of them! She loved reading voraciously and enjoyed knitting while watching TV. Long phone calls were her specialty too. A devoted Christian woman at heart; she had a passion for Irish music as well as Christian and country tunes.
Her siblings were like royalty to her; Helen made sure her kids understood this bond too so they could cherish it just like she did. Family meant everything to Helen. As a grandmother who cared deeply about each grandchild individually; she welcomed everyone into her home with warmth and kindness treating all friends of her children like they were part of the family. Her balance between motherly love and friendship is something that grew more precious over time.
Her children remember their mom as someone proud yet dignified who worked hard every day while giving back whenever possible. Above all else though-she loved being around family reminding everyone that it comes first above anything else! To those closest to her; she radiated love with an ever-present heartfelt smile-a constant support during life’s ups and downs.
The strong love for family that Helen nurtured remains today through close ties shared among siblings-and continues within all generations after them including children grandchildren great-grandchildren alike-all taught by Helen how important it is to support one another wholeheartedly!
The family invites friends to join them at Carson Funeral Homes L. Doolittle Chapel located at 54 Coldwater St E., Orillia (705) 326-3595 on Friday June 26th from 6-8 P. M., continuing Saturday June 27th starting at 10 A. M until noon when the funeral service will begin followed by interment happening later that afternoon at Atherley Cemetery around 2:30 P. M. The service will also be livestreamed(link will be posted soon). If anyone wishes; memorial donations can go towards either Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Knox Presbyterian Church Uptergrove or Mariposa House Hospice-they would be appreciated greatly!
A reflection from one son:
“My mom was the greatest mom ever. I could always talk to her so easily and ask her opinion-and she’d always give it freely. I’m still going to be talking to you Mom. Never stop answering.”
Helen was deeply loved and will be missed forever.
