Scott Nelson Northmore
July 14, 1934 – June 2, 2026
With heavy hearts and appreciation for a life well lived, the family of Scott Nelson Northmore announces his peaceful passing on June 2, 2026 at the age of 91.
He was the devoted husband of the late Patricia Ann Northmore (Walker), sharing 65 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, faith, and family. He leaves behind his children Kim (John), Scott (Sandy), Mike (Deb), and Ken (Jackie). As a grandfather, he was cherished by Damien, Eve (Scott), Jessie (Ramsey), Nicki (Jon), Darcy (Tania), Natalie (Tyler), Caleb (Ada), Sydney (Sam), Natalie, Brianna (Garrett), Simon (Camryn), and Morgan. Additionally, he proudly embraced his role as GG to Desmond, Arnie, Hunter, Lily, Liam, Deacon, Porter, Kasey, Kolton, Isabella, and Eli.
Dad’s life journey began in Guelph, Ontario where he was adopted at an early age by Nelson and Hazel Northmore. Tragically, both parents passed away when he was just seven years old. Despite this hardship and being raised by extended family members who loved him dearly, he grew up with a strong sense of independence that allowed him to explore life boldly.
In 1958, he met Patricia Walker and fell head over heels in love. His unique proposal involved offering her a Chicklet from a small box that secretly held the engagement ring inside. After some playful resistance from her regarding the treat, she eventually accepted it-and even more willingly said yes! They tied the knot on May 9th that same year and soon started their beautiful family together in a home overflowing with warmth.
The Northmore household buzzed with activity thanks to Dad’s enthusiasm for sports across the board. He made significant contributions as a coach and administrator in local baseball and hockey leagues in Bracebridge while serving as President of the Bracebridge Minor Hockey Association for some time. Many friends will remember fondly their canoe trips or fishing adventures alongside Dad during ball games or on ice with teams like The Old Timers or Old Wicks Hockey Teams! The Bracebridge Sportsplex stands as a lasting tribute to his lifelong passion for athletics.
In 1969 our family moved to Muskoka as Dad shifted from working in insurance adjustment to public service. He proudly served as Deputy Sheriff at Bracebridge Court House for two decades before retiring in 1995. During this time he earned the nickname `Barney’ after Don Knotts’ character-a fittingly humorous title that stuck with him forever.
His true calling emerged in 1988 when he became elected as a councillor for Macaulay Ward. Over an impressive span of 18 years dedicated to local politics-serving three terms as Mayor of Bracebridge-he guided the town through rapid development while championing essential projects like Bracebridge Sportsplex along with Peake Fields and Bracebridge Bay Park. His commitment to our community is honored through his inclusion on the Reflections of Bracebridge Heritage Mural.
For Dad; politics were about service rather than recognition. He simply believed being active within one’s community is essential-finding joy connecting with others while sharing laughs or discussing new ideas.
We’re thankful for his life lessons; his dedication; above all-the love he gave us all. He leaves behind not only a loving family but also a better town due to his care along with an unforgettable impact that will resonate long into future generations.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude towards everyone at Castle Peak and Muskoka Shores; especially Megan Gray PSW-for their incredible support following Pat’s passing in 2023. It brings comfort knowing they are now reunited once again during this difficult time.
Please join us for visitation on Friday June 19th; starting at Reynolds Funeral Home located in Bracebridge between two sessions: from two until four PM then six until nine PM respectively.
A public Celebration of Life event is set for Saturday July twenty-fifth from one until four PM taking place inside Muskoka Leon’s Auditorium situated within Muskoka Lumber Community Centre located at fifty-six Salmon Avenue right here in Bracebridge!
