It is with great sadness that we share the news of Richard Allen Lesnick’s passing, at the age of 89, on August 30th, 2026, at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. He was born on August 14, 1937, in Fort William, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Richard had a warm heart and was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin and friend. His talent for conversation made him well-loved by everyone he encountered.
Raised in Blake Township. He is survived by his wife Violet and his brother Fred (Betty) Lesnick as well as sister Margaret (Roger) Hurst. He was predeceased by his parents Bernard & May Lesnick, daughter Catharine, sisters: Connie, Gerty (Peter), May (Fern), Agnes (Bob), brothers: Clarence (Sophie), Benard (Freda), Leonard (May).
What an incredible mind! Richard had a gift for remembering details and engaging in conversations; it was always enjoyable to spend hours sharing stories and learning about people and events from the past. In earlier years, he often shared tales of hunting and fishing adventures with family and friends. Other conversations revolved around favorite restaurants from the past and present-their owners and the delicious meals he enjoyed.
He loved using the phone: “The best thing ever made!” He would call just to check in and see how everyone was doing. His kindness showed through in every call.
He began his career as a lumberman with family members before working at Candy Mountain Ski Hill and various communities with the MTO throughout his life.
Richard exhibited great resilience despite facing numerous accidents and health challenges over the years; he fought bravely until the very end.
Rest in Peace Richard. You will be missed.

A Celebration of Life for Richard will take place at Rosslyn Community Centre (3405 Rosslyn Road) on Friday, September 11th, 2026 at 11am.
