MILO – The family of Leona Milo from Ituna, the devoted wife of the late Bernie Milo, sadly share that she passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Leona was born to Tillie (Elash) and Joseph Petrowsky on April 11, 1929, in the Otthon District of Saskatchewan and started her schooling at Jaroslaw school. The family later moved to the Hard Rock area near Hubbard where they farmed, and Leona continued her education at Hard Rock school. There she met her soulmate, Bernie Milo. They tied the knot on September 7, 1947, and settled down on the Milo homestead. Later they bought a quarter section across the road and lived there until the early 1960s when they acquired a half section of land near Ituna and built a new home. They were fortunate to have five children: Diana, Theodore (Ted), Mervin, Jennifer, and Eugene. Throughout their time near Ituna, Leona and Bernie worked hard on their farm before moving to Regina in the fall of 1967. In Regina, Leona found work at Sears mail order warehouse as well as being a waitress at King’s Hotel; she also served as a store clerk and eventually became Manager of Saan Store. In 1978 they returned to Ituna where they resided until their passing. Community service meant everything to Leona. She volunteered for St. Stanislaus Parish, Ituna Social Club, Hospital Auxiliary, CWL, among many other local activities. A big part of her life was spent caring for her grandchildren. She loved having family over for visits and had a passion for traveling, fishing, sewing patchwork quilts galore. Gardening brought her immense joy which she kept up with until she was 95 years old. She was always eager for chats filled with reminiscing and laughter; everyone enjoyed her delicious cooking known especially for her scuffles and tasty tweedies. Leona passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Ituna Pioneer Lodge at age 96 years old-just shy of turning 97 by only 24 days.
