Joan Kooner passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife and life partner to Ranjit Singh Kooner for 49 years. Joan was a proud mother to Justin, Andrew, Gavin, and Yasmin. She also adored being a Gramma to Jaya, Kain, and Maya. In addition, she was a caring Mother-In-Law to Sunita, Moni, Elisa and Tejak.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Jeet Singh and Naranjan Kaur and the daughter-in-law of Gyan Kooner and the late Balbir Kooner. Joan is survived by her dear siblings Linda and Paul, John and Rashpal, as well as Judy and Palvinder; she lost her brothers Balbir and Phinderjit. She was also a cherished sister-in-law to Baljeet and Virender, Ajit and Navreet. Many nieces, nephews, and extended family around the world will miss her greatly.

After dedicating 43 years of service at ABC Day Nursery on Hanna Street as a Supervisor, Joan left behind a legacy of nurturing countless young lives. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy; she loved spending time with them above all else. Joan enjoyed listening to music-especially “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver-and had fun visiting her favorite stores on weekends while whipping up delicious Indian meals for her family.

As a committed Sikh community member, she generously shared her time through Seva while always putting others ahead of herself. Kind-hearted and selfless in nature-Joan was a strong presence who held her family together. To many people in their lives beyond relatives or friends-she was simply Momma Joan-a resilient influence whose warmth will leave an empty space in our hearts.

Visitation will occur at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Banwell Chapel located at 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. (519-253-7235) on Thursday April 2nd from 5:00-8:00 p. m. On Friday April 3rd from 10:00 a. m until noon there will be Visitation followed by Path and Ardas before proceeding to Windsor Crematorium (1100 Division Rd., Windsor). Path Antim Ardas along with Langar will take place afterward at Gurdwara Khalsa Prakash (7955 County Rd. 42).
