GAMMAGE- Elaine (Nee Comartin)
With great sorrow, we share the news of Elaine Gammage’s passing, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on June 12, 2025. Elaine was born on May 13, 1951, and dedicated her life to her family, career, and the communities she cared for.
Elaine was the loving wife of James R. Gammage for 52 years. Together they created a life filled with love and laughter. She was a proud mother to Emilee (Mike) Drew and Justin (Anna Mc Nichol) Gammage and adored grandmother to Alina, Ethan, Kiana, Jayden, and Davin-each one bringing her immense joy. Her sisters Yvette Janisse, Carmel Lebert, Madeline Reid along with her late brother Louis Comartin also feel her absence deeply as do many friends who appreciated her kindness and generosity.
Beyond being a dedicated family member, Elaine was an active advocate for community health care and education. With an impressive 40-year career at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance, she cared for patients while mentoring numerous aspiring healthcare professionals as a clinical instructor for diagnostic imaging students. Her passion led her to become Head of the Diagnostic Imaging Department where she made significant contributions. She also served on the Board of the Tilbury Health Care team in her ongoing commitment to enhancing lives.
In addition to her successful healthcare career, Elaine excelled as a realtor with Rexmax in Chatham during the 1990s. Her focus and skills in real estate reflected her unwavering commitment to excellence across different fields.
Elaine’s zest for life went beyond work. She loved traveling and discovering new places but found true happiness when surrounded by family and friends. Gardening was another passion of hers; she’d spend hours nurturing her beautiful yard while enjoying nature’s beauty around her. Known for dancing with Jim at various events over the years showcased their enduring connection and love for life together.
Elaine took pride in maintaining good health through daily walks-a routine that wore out several pairs of walking shoes over time. These moments provided strength and calmness allowing her to stay active in every part of her life.
The love Elaine shared will remain alive in those who knew her well as well as through all those whose lives she touched throughout both personal interactions and professional endeavors. People will remember how compassionate she was along with how freely she gave love to everyone around.
As per her wishes cremation has taken place.
