Lino John Marcon, 95, of Spring, Texas died on June 30th. He was born on January 21st, 1930, in Coniston, Ontario Canada to the late Emilio Marcon and Angela Spinazzè. Some called him Lino, others John, but to his family he was Dad and Nonno.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Marcon nee Fraser; brother, Norman Marcon; daughter, Margaret Angelina Marcon; daughter, Jane Madeline (Brady) Whitfield; son, Christopher Anthony Marcon; son, Michael Fraser (Angela Kay) Marcon; daughter, Maureen Elizabeth Marcon; granddaughters, Sarah Marie Goodman, Shana Marie Marcon, Virginia Margaret Marcon; and Sophia Marie Marcon; grandsons Mathew Fraser Marcon and John Michael Fedorko; great-granddaughters Joy Goodman, Nora Goodman, and Evangeline Bown; great-grandson Ryker Bown.
John went to Copper Cliff Public and High School in Copper Cliff, Ontario Canada before starting at Queen’s University in Kingston in 1949. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1952. His career began with the Canadian National Research Council in Ottawa. During that time he was even recruited to the farm team of the Ottawa Rough Riders football team. Unfortunately a skiing accident caused a broken ankle which put an end to his athletic dreams.
In the summer of 1954 at the Ottawa Yacht Club, John met Liz-the woman who would share his life for the next 68 years. He then joined Perini Canada and contributed to major engineering projects in Elliot Lake and Bersimis as well as Chute-des-Passes Quebec. The projects at Bersimis and Chute-des-Passes were part of ALCAN’s hydroelectric developments. After finishing these projects in 1959 he moved to Perini’s headquarters located in Boston Massachusetts. It was during this time that they welcomed their first three children-Peggy (Toronto), Jane (Chute-des-Passes), and Chris (Framingham MA).
Later on John became part of Olin Matheson based out of Stamford Connecticut. In 1961 he moved with Liz and their family to Alton Illinois where he worked at the Olin Brass Mill while their children Mike and Maureen were born there. From 1968 onward John’s role as Senior Project Manager took them around various cities across the eastern U. S., managing large-scale capital projects.
The family settled down in Lake Charles Louisiana around 1972 where John oversaw construction for a major chemical facility for Olin. He stayed with Olin until retiring in 1993. Once retired John found a new passion for woodcarving which became like a second job for him. He also traveled widely with Liz visiting many countries including memorable trips back to San Fior and Castello Roganzuolo-the towns of his ancestors located within Treviso Italy.
John and Liz were dedicated members of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Lake Charles where he played an important role supporting various construction efforts at the church facilities including helping build Villa Maria-the OLQH retirement center. He held deep respect for Monsignor Irving De Blanc who served as pastor there for many years providing companionship during Monsignor De Blanc’s retirement.
After two devastating hurricanes hit Lake Charles in 2020 John and Liz made their way to Spring Texas so they could be nearer to their kids.
