James Patrick “Jim” Power, who was 90 years old, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. A caring husband, father, grandfather, businessman, adventurer, and friend, Jim lived an extraordinary life filled with determination, humility, resilience, and a deep love for his family.
Jim was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada to Mary Elise Saulnier and James Edward Power. He graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School before getting a degree in Civil Engineering from St. Francis Xavier University (3 yrs) and the University of New Brunswick (2 yrs). Jim also served as a member of the Royal Canadian Army of Engineers and later earned an Executive Masters in Business Certificate from the University of Western Ontario.
Jim started his career with Johns Manville Canada and quickly moved up through the company ranks. He frequently relocated his family across Canada until he became President and Chief Operating Officer of Johns-Manville Canada. In 1981, Jim’s family moved from Canada to Denver, Colorado where he joined Manville’s Global Senior Executive Leadership team. After leaving corporate life behind him, Jim founded several successful companies that focused on manufacturing and supplying pipeline coatings while building strong relationships with customers around the globe. His entrepreneurial spirit along with his work ethic made him respected by colleagues and friends across various industries.
While Jim achieved great success professionally, those who knew him best understood that his greatest happiness came from spending time with family and lifelong friends. He enjoyed skiing at Vail and Beaver Creek Ski Resorts as well as cycling through Colorado’s stunning mountain passes during Ride the Rockies alongside Jackie and close friends. He loved attending performances at the Central City Opera House along with shows at Ford Amphitheater and Vilar Performing Arts Center too; plus traveling around the world with those he cherished most. Additionally he proudly served on boards such as Beaver Creek Metro District Board Eagle County Water Board & Beaver Creek Property Owner’s Board since he genuinely cared about the mountain communities which meant so much to him; even having his old Vail ski pass permanently displayed right inside Gas House restaurant!
Jim had a unique mix of strength paired beautifully with humility; approaching every challenge ahead with can-do attitude combined together quietly confident yet unwavering perseverance known equally for kindness thoughtfulness devotion towards others alike leading not through loudness nor ego but rather integrity consistency setting examples instead – bringing comfort wisdom humor steadiness into lives lucky enough knowing him personally.
He is survived by loving family including wife Jacquelyn “Jackie” Power; son Patrick James Power; daughter Stephanie Power Evans along her husband Paul T. Evans; stepchildren Carrie Staahl Brett Staahl Tyler Northrop Erika Northrop grandchildren Cole T. Evans James Parker Evans Davis Evans Chloe Power Lily Power Abbey Power Jack Staahl Jules Staahl Watson Northrop beloved extended relatives residing within Canada too being preceded death two sisters Eleanor Stoddard Irene Allen.
A celebration honoring Jim’s life will be shared later date.
In lieu flowers memorial contributions may go towards Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Parkinson’s Foundation Humane Colorado.
Jim leaves behind legacy filled love humility determination generosity inspiring generations forward continuing impact felt among all those who knew him.
