Jacqueline Ann Hiscock was a loving wife, best friend, and life partner to her husband Randy. She was an amazing mother to Eric and “Glamma” to Madeleine. Jackie left this world on November 21, 2025, after a short seven-week fight with cancer in St. John’s, Newfoundland. To everyone who knew her, she was beautiful both inside and out, embodying the essence of kindness, friendship, and compassion.
Jackie was born on July 31, 1961 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s to John and Shirley English and was the older sister to brother Jerry. Her early childhood took place on Mt. Scio Road. After graduating from Holy Heart in St. John’s, she pursued geology studies at Memorial University following in the footsteps of her great uncle Arthur English. This decision had a significant impact on her life by sparking her love for travel and living abroad.
At just seven years old, Jackie discovered swimming due to her father’s encouragement. This passion stayed with her throughout her life as she transitioned from athlete to coach in Newfoundland representing the province at the Canada Games and serving as an International judge with FINA for Canada. As a coach with the Calgary Aquabelles for 15 years, she had a true passion for spotting talent and nurturing new swimmers. Many of those connections turned into lifelong friendships across the globe. I remember one spontaneous road trip from Spain to Hungary driven solely by her commitment to be there for a World competition where one of “her girls” was competing for Canada. Several of Jackie’s former swimmers went on to become Olympians who credited Jackie as key in developing their early love for the sport. Her fifty-year dedication to synchronized swimming culminated in August 2025 when she served as Head Judge of Artistic Swimming at the Canada Summer Games held back home in St. John’s.
In 1983, Jackie earned a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Geology from Memorial University. It was here that she met Randy during their undergraduate studies; they later married that same November after moving to Calgary together-a relationship spanning an incredible 44 years filled with adventures and cherished memories until her passing.
She spent several years working in geological research before welcoming their only child Eric into the world in 1985. Choosing family over career without hesitation, she became a stay-at-home mom during Eric’s formative years because that’s just how dedicated she was to him and family life overall. In 1992 Jackie rejoined the workforce with American Airlines followed by Air BC and eventually spent 15 years working at Air Canada based out of Calgary then St John’s while also pursuing travel around the world-an interest that continued even after retiring in 2015.
The year 2003 brought tragedy when both Jackie’s parents passed away within months of each other: first their mother Shirley then father John shortly after that loss rocked their family dynamics but through it all Jackie managed work responsibilities supporting family while also caring for them during difficult times-including flying back home whenever possible despite having long hours herself battling health issues too along this journey demonstrating how selfless love truly defined who she was.
For over two decades (from ’84 until ‘05) they called Calgary home before relocating back again ultimately returning once more overseas places like The Netherlands & Houston alongside maintaining roots firmly planted still deep down here always having been connected right back towards our hearts upon Oliver’s Pond Portugal Cove – St Phillips NL which we’d found together scouting land intended future homestead built among joyful memories shared-as no household felt complete without furry companions! Starting off initially raising four Samoyeds Misha Niko Miq Qali who traveled along beside us eventually leading up now bringing five Pomeranians adopted from Bell Island Alberta remain part family today although missing dearly since losing Momma altogether lately feels especially hard…
From springtime until autumn between ‘17-‘25 our cabin nestled near pond became true oasis every summer followed joyfully visiting Calgary during Christmas time prior heading south beachfront paradise awaits awaiting Barbados-where warm welcomes created many dear friendships formed largely thanks largely due very smile kindness shown effortlessly pouring forth!
This sudden devastating loss has shattered lives around us leaving immense void impossible fully fill; Eric I can only hope time helps soften pain experienced keeping spirit alive honoring memory held tightly onto forever cherished through granddaughter Madeleine son Eric creating lasting bonds…
Her lovely face personality will stay imprinted deeply within hearts daily along legacy carried forward via those closest dear friends families alike who loved unconditionally beyond measure!
