Mark John Melville

November 24, 1970 – June 18, 2026

We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband and father, Mark John Melville on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Mark was born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario where he spent his childhood with two brothers. He had a passion for sports, camping, and card games. An excellent student who loved learning, Mark enjoyed sharing his knowledge with those around him. He went on to attend the University of Waterloo where he earned a Bachelor of Mathematics degree and later completed his Bachelor of Education at Nipissing University.

A dedicated teacher with a sharp sense of humor, Mark made a significant impact during his over 25 years at Notre Dame Catholic High School. He taught math and computer science, coached basketball and football teams, and served as the school’s union representative. His dedication extended beyond teaching; he developed computer software for local winemakers while managing several rental properties.

Mark was sincere, kind-hearted, and full of energy. His faith played a vital role in shaping who he was and guided his life’s values. Those who knew him admired his quiet strength and unwavering presence throughout life’s ups and downs.

One of Mark’s greatest gifts was his love for children, friends, and family. He found true joy (and often acted silly) when surrounded by little ones. His warmth went beyond just hosting large gatherings at home (which both he and Karen did frequently); he had an exceptional ability to welcome others with open arms. A hopeful yet frustrated NY Giants fan, Mark cherished many weekends spent watching NFL football with Karen. He also enjoyed sipping green tea, brewing his own IPAs, and playing backgammon.

A devoted husband for 31 years to Karen (née Mc Donald); loving father to five kids: Connor (Camille), Dylan (Patricia), Cameron, Shannon, and Myles; this past year marked the joyous occasion when Mark became grandpa extraordinaire to granddaughter Charlotte Melville-Vaillant. He is survived by his parents John and Geraldine Melville; in-laws Stuart and Gladys Mc Donald; brothers Peter (Kerry) and Dan (Amanda); brothers-in-law Clancy (Lisa), Kevin (Jenna), Ryan; sister-in-law Marjorie (Ryan); nieces and nephews Kate, Ben, Nate, Vanessa, Sarah, Lauren, Bella, Clancy, Rosa, Luke, Lily Joshua Ada Alice , and Ruby; along with numerous aunts uncles cousins friends.

Public visitations will be held at Alan R. Barker Funeral Home (19 Mc Arthur Ave., Carleton Place) on Tuesday June 23 from 6:00 p. m.-8:00 p. m., as well as Wednesday June 24 from 2:00 p. m.-4:00 p. m., then again from 6:00 p. m.-8:00 p. m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church (28 Hawthorne Ave., Carleton Place ON K7C 3A9) on Thursday June 25 at 10:00 a. m.

During his final days Mark received wonderful care from the incredible staff at Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice. His family is truly grateful for their dedication during this time. Donations in honor of Mark would be greatly appreciated by this deserving establishment online or via mail (110 Mc Curdy Dr., Kanata ON K2L 2Z6).
