We are heartbroken to share that Christopher “Kit” Coleman passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. He died peacefully at home with his family by his side after a brief battle with cancer.
Kit was 85 years old. He was the loving husband of Judith Coleman (née Thompson). A devoted father to Sandra Graham (Ian Schwartz), Jane Tymoshuk (John Tymoshuk), Shirley Coleman (Merrell Philippi), and John Coleman (Alexandra Coleman). He was a proud grandfather to James, Scott, Colin, Samuel, Kristen, Kathryn, Michael, and Mackenzie, and a great-grandfather to Stanley and Amelia. Kit is also survived by his sister Gillian Booth and her husband Richard from England.
Born in Wylam, England, Kit met Judith at her sister’s 21st birthday party. They married in 1962 and moved to Canada in 1965 with their two young daughters so Kit could start what became a distinguished 35-year career at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) at Chalk River Laboratories.
Outside work, Kit loved being outdoors. He enjoyed canoeing, fishing, cross-country skiing, and hiking while fully appreciating all that the Ottawa Valley had to offer. In the Deep River community he was very active; he played double bass in the Deep River Symphony Orchestra (DRSO), volunteered for the Deep River Running Club and Scuba Club as well as the Deep River CANDU Swim Club.
A lifelong athlete, Kit excelled as a runner. As a young man he competed as a world-class steeplechaser and later completed many marathons throughout his life-a reflection of his determination and discipline.
We’re incredibly grateful for all those who cared for him during his time at Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus and at home under the excellent care of Dr. Quenneville along with the Bayshore Palliative Care Team through Ontario Health at Home.
In line with Kit’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18th at 12:30 pm located at 6 Ryans Camp Lane in Pt. Alexander. In memory of Kit, donations to the DRSO would be greatly appreciated.
