It is with sadness that the family of Mary “Mona” Listmayer (nee Peltier) announces her passing on June 7, 2026, at the age of 100, after a year of declining health.
Mona was born on September 24, 1925, in North Bay, Ontario, to Louis and Mona Peltier (nee Rutledge). She was the youngest of five siblings. After finishing high school, she completed a one-year administrative course and started working at the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
In 1952, Mona married Stephen Joseph Listmayer, who was the love of her life. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years together until Steve passed away in 2019. They created a loving home and raised four wonderful children.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents; her four siblings; her husband, Steve; and three of her children: Janet, Dwight, and Warren.
She is fondly remembered by her daughter, Anita Caruso (Frank); son-in-law Bernard Chan; daughter-in-law Joy Listmayer; grandchildren Grace (Bee) Chang, Alanna (Travis) Bechard, Andrew and Amy Listmayer, Carmine and Stephen Caruso, and Victoria (Frank) Benincasa; great-grandchildren Clara Bechard and Rowan Caruso; along with several nieces and nephews. She had a special bond with her nieces Sally Ross and Brenda Peltier.
Family meant everything to Mona. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Proud of her Peltier and Rutledge roots, she enjoyed exploring genealogy and learning about family history.
Mona found happiness in many simple things. She adored her cats and liked going to dances with Steve at Branch #5 Legion and the 55 Plus Centre. Time spent at their family camp on Mc Leish Lake brought many happy memories. She kept up with current events by reading the daily newspaper regularly-clipping articles that interested her to share with family through letters. Old movies and radio shows were among her favorite pastimes as well as watching the news.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the VON personal support workers who took care of Mona in her home over recent years as well as to the staff at Wesway Junot Home along with doctors and nurses from TBRHSC’s 2A for their compassionate care.
In place of flowers, donations in Mona’s name may be made to the Ontario Humane Society Northwest Animal Centre.
A private service has already been held. Interment took place at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www. sargentandson. com.
