Captain (N) J. Kevin Keating, CD

August 31, 1950 – August 19, 2025

Captain (N) John Kevin Keating, CD, of Kingston, previously from Hammonds Plains, passed away in Valley Hospice, Kentville on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, just shy of his 75th birthday.

Born in Burin, Newfoundland, Kevin obtained degrees in Psychology and Medicine from Memorial University and a degree in Health Service Administration from Dalhousie University. He served as a medical officer in the Canadian Forces, including time at sea aboard HMCS Provider and various postings across Canada. He achieved the rank of Captain (N) and was the Commanding Officer of Formation Health Services for Maritime Forces Atlantic. He also held senior positions in Ottawa, London (Ontario), and Halifax. He earned the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) for his service. Kevin contributed to his country in Visoka, Bosnia providing medical assistance to both civilians and members of the Canadian Forces. He was also the commanding officer at CFB Borden Medical School where he trained many individuals.

Outside of his impressive career, Kevin lived life with joy and enthusiasm. He loved golfing and traveling and was always excited to discover new places while making lasting memories with family and friends. Music was a lifelong interest-he enjoyed singing and playing guitar which often filled rooms with happiness.

Kevin’s memory is one of devoted service, academic success, and a joyful spontaneity that showcased his love for life. His absence will be felt by family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife Jackie Keating (née Hughes), his children Chris Keating (Amanda Brown) and Erin Surette (Brian), along with his adored grandchildren Scarlett, Sebby, Silas, Harper, and Rowan. He also leaves behind brothers Paul, David, Michael (Barb); sisters Kathy, Brenda; Peggy (Daniel); first wife Elizabeth Keating (née Tucker); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by parents John Leo and Marguerite Keating; sisters Bettie Collins and Patricia Keating; nephew Jeffrey Grace; along with brothers-in-law Ronnie Hughes and Carson Collins.

As per Kevin’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held from 1-3 p. m. on Thursday October 9th , 2025 at Glen Arbour Golf Course Clubhouse located at 40 Clubhouse Lane in Hammonds Plains N. S.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation in memory of Kevin to honor the compassionate care he received during his final days-a meaningful gift that allowed him dignity respect comfort while providing solace to those he loved.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home at 398 Main Street with toll-free number: 1-855-825-3448. You can sign an online guest book by visiting: www. middletonfuneralhome. com
